Overload of election posters distracting some Cork voters

Cork has a few towns and villages with no posters – but it looks like everywhere else is completely covered in stuff.

There are now 17 regions that have decided to stop posting posters ahead of the general election, including Blarney, Cobh, Bandon, Ballincollig and Castletownbere.

However, parts of the city seem to be disappearing behind a forest of posters. And in the town of Rossmore in West Cork, there is even a poster about the local Marian shrine.

The poster is for County Cork Mayor and Dail candidate Christopher O’Sullivan and the CorkBeo reader who photographed the bizarre spectacle says he says local Fianna Fail volunteers installed it during the weekend.

“I thought it was funny, okay! They’ve put posters up everywhere now,” the local said.

North of town, Ian Kenefick photographed what looks like an optical illusion of posters stuck to a fence along his bus route through Mayfield.

“I don’t know any of the candidates but I think it is unnecessary to have 3 posters per candidate attached to a roadside barrier at a notoriously busy intersection – it doesn’t reflect the parties well,” Ian told CorkBeo .

“As far as I know, it’s not allowed to do this anyway. It’s an eyesore and kind of shows contempt for the people living in the area.

These posters are printed with solvent based inks on PVC. Not very recyclable and not environmentally friendly. “

“I think these candidates might want to connect with the electorate through alternative media campaigns.”
